Cladewright: Tree Studio
Support
Cladewright is an offline iPhone and iPad tree-inspection workspace. No sign-in or subscription is required.
Import a tree
- Open Library and tap the plus button.
- Choose Open Tree File for a Newick or NEXUS document, Paste Tree Text for clipboard content, or Add Sample for a fresh worked project.
- After parsing succeeds, Cladewright selects the project and opens Tree.
Supported source details
Newick input may contain quoted labels, doubled quote escapes, nested bracket comments, internal support labels, and optional finite nonnegative branch lengths. NEXUS input supports a TREES block, an optional TRANSLATE table, and TREE or UTREE statements. Unsupported or malformed values produce an error instead of being silently replaced.
Work with the tree
Use the segmented controls to choose rectangular or radial layout and topology or branch-length scale. Ladderize reorders branches for readability. Collapse hides descendants below the selected support floor. Tap a visible node to inspect it, focus on its clade, or reroot at an internal branch.
Join trait metadata
Traits accepts CSV with the columns taxon, group, state, color, notes. Quoted fields and doubled quotes are supported. Taxon matching is case-insensitive and diacritic-insensitive, while the source label remains unchanged.
Export a review packet
Open Export to share an individual Newick, NEXUS, trait CSV, SVG, or PDF file. Share Complete Packet creates every available format and presents them together in the iOS share sheet.
Backups and device changes
Projects live in Cladewright's private app container. Before deleting the app or changing devices, export a complete packet for each project. Cladewright does not operate a cloud-sync service.
Method sources
Cladewright links to the Interactive Tree of Life annotation guide and the NEXUS file-format specification. These references describe formats and presentation; they do not validate a project's biological interpretation.
